1. Why do you think Papa wants to keep the land, no matter?
Papa wants to keep the land no matter what because when we have land, we do not need to be under cntrol by white people. If we don't have the land, then we need to work for white people, and we will lose our rights because we are African American. So, Papa wants to keep the land no metter some white people want to take the land back, because he wants to give us better lives, when our family have the land, I and my brothers will have better lives, Papa do a lot of things all of the work Papa did is for us.
2. How do you think about T.J. why does his life be like this bad?
T.J is not a good kid, because he does not even care about the rights that he loose. He even bully my brother, take his things. At last, he become worse and worse, he stay with bad white kids. I remember at last Papa safe he. In my opinion, I want all the African American people to join the civil rights movement, and fights for their rights, and we do not need to be inforior than the white people.
3. What do you think about the twenty first century, does the society in the United States become better?
After MLK working push on the civil rights movement, and sacrifice oneself. Start of the intergation, I feel everything becme better. For example, in the South, we are not equal as white people at that time when I was young, but now is better. All of the work that done by my family and other people must be mark. The work that my father had done to keep the land and let me and his other children had better lives, we feel thankful for him.
4. If you have the chance, do you want to be white people but not African American?
The work that I and my family were doing was trying to make our lives better, even thought there were a lot of unfairness in our society at that time about white people and African American, but I still want to be what am I. Some people are different than us, for example, T.J. wants to be white people, he doesn't want to fight for his rights.
5. What do think about the bad things that white people did to you and your family?
I think some of them are not really understand why we are inferior than white people. White people think it is the way how the society works. White children are kind of be brain wash at that time, their parents tought them about we are inferior than them. During the time of segregation, I and my family and most of other African American people are prove we are not inferior than white people. So, I think I will forgive about the bad things that white people did to me and my family, because they didn't know what they were doing.
6. What do you feel when some of your family feel that they don't want to fight for their rights, because they think it is how the things work?
At first, I am very angry and upset how can my family be like that. For example the first time in the shop. I think that must be different than I think, I think when someone do something bad to us or take out our rigthts, the older people in our family will fight for that back, but they didnt't, I feel very upset about that. I like how my father and mother did to the society, trying to help African American people get the rights that we should have. I think everyone must fight for their rights.
Cassie is a nine years old girl live in Mississippi during the segregation. In the school, Cassie feel unfairness and other bad things. African American students need to use the old stuff that white people left behind, and they don't have school bus to go to school. Onece African American decide to trick white students, so they let their school bus broke by dig a whole on the ground. And then they succeed, white students need to work to school just like them, Cassie and other children feel happy about that.
When Cassie go to store with her family and other people, go to store. The people who work in the shop don't respect African American people, and does not service them as service white people, Cassie feel very upset other black people didn't fight for their rights, they think it is how the society works.
Cassie's Papa and other African American people decide to initiate a boycott in white people's store. So white people wants to take back the land that Cassie's family have because of the boyott.
T.J is a African American kid, but he does not like other black people do things to fight for their rights, he is a problem maker. One day, he with bad white kids. And white kids frame him by the muder charge. So white people is going to kill hime by lynching. Papa safe his life by burn the farm, so everyone need to help to put down the fire.
So, T.J, didn't die by the lynching, but in the court, he is commite to crime and need to go to jail.
